It's the time of year when every ACC hoops fan is trying to figure out the potential ACC Tournament scenarios. With the new league format have come questions about the tiebreaker procedure. It's as follows:
If two teams are tied: Head-to-head results are used. This is true even if the teams only played once.
If two teams are tied and split their two regular season meetings: Compare each team's record against the highest-seeded team in the league. If the records against that team are the same, continue down the standings until one team gains an advantage. The higher winning percentage prevails (i.e. 2-0 is better than 3-1, 1-0 is the same as 2-0, etc.)
If three or more teams are tied: Create a miniconference made up of the tied teams. Ties are broken and seedings assigned based on the winning percentage in games against the other tied teams. As above, the higher winning percentage prevails.
If that procedure fails to break the tie, each tied team's record is compared to the highest-seeded team in the league. If the records against that team are the same, continue down the standings until one team gains an advantage. The higher winning percentage prevails.
If that procedure fails to break the tie, a coin flip is used. That procedure is conducted immediately following the conclusion of the last regular season game.
