Sean May Named Hardee's Student-Athlete Of The Week

Sean May had career scoring and rebounding highs in two home wins and Evan Sola was the MVP of the ACC Wrestling Tournament as UNC won the title and share Hardees Student-Athlete of the Week honors for February 28-March 6, 2005.
May had his finest week as a Tar Heel as he scored a career-high 32 points in the win over Florida State and grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds in the win over 6th-ranked Duke. He had 12 rebounds to go along with his 32 points vs. FSU and scored a game-high 26 points in the win over the Blue Devils. For the two games, May averaged 29 points and 18 rebounds and was a combined 23 for 34 67.6 percent) from the floor. May was 13 for 15 from the floor against the Seminoles, the most points and the most field goals by a Tar Heel in four years. The 24 rebounds against Duke were the most by a Tar Heel since Rusty Clark had 30 against Maryland in 1968.
Sola, a junior from Wernersville, Pa., was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 2005 ACC Championships Saturday, as he captured his second individual title at 133 pounds and led the Tar Heels to their 16th conference championship and sixth in the last 10 years. Ranked No. 12 by InterMat, Sola recorded major decisions over NC State's Jeremy Hartrum (12-1) and Duke's Bryan Gibson (10-2) before posting a 6-4 decision over Virginia Tech's David Hoffman, ranked 13th nationally, in the final. Sola has now won 19 consecutive bouts to run his season record to 31-3. With the ACC title, Sola advances to his third national championship meet, where he captured All-America honors in 2003.

SOFTBALL
Alison Yin, Jr.
Pitcher, Glendale, Calif.
Yin allowed only no earned runs in seven innings to lead the UNC softball team past No. 20 Florida State, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. It was the Tar Heels' first win over FSU since 2002, and only the 11th in school history. Yin surrendered only four hits on the day and struck out four Seminole batters, as Carolina improved to 14-7 on the season.
BASEBALL
Andrew Miller
Sophomore, Pitcher
Gainesville, Fla.
Miller fanned a career-best 12 batters in 6.2 innings in Friday's 11-inning loss Arizona State. He allowed just his second earned run of the season on five hits and four walks. Miller now has a 0.71 ERA and a 3-0 record in four starts. He has fanned 30 batters in 25.1 innings and opponents are batting just .200 versus the 6-foot, 6-inch lefty.

Jenn Cook
Sophomore, Midfielder, Broomall, Pa.
Cook played very well in a pair of Tar Heel road wins last week, one of which came over a ranked opponent. She scored a key second-half goal in the 9-8 win at No. 9 Loyola on March 4 while also gathering three ground balls and playing steady defense throughout the game. She also collected six ground balls in the 12-5 win at Mount St. Mary's on March 6.
