Carolina's Men's Golf Team Tied For 14th Place At NCAA East Regional

Complete ResultsKingston Springs, Tenn. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team dropped to a tie for 14th place after the second round of the NCAA East Regional. The Tar Heels carded a 14-over-par 298 in the second round for a six-over 574 total. After play was suspended due to weather and darkness on the first day, Carolina completed its first-round play early Friday and was in third place with an eight-under 276 total.
At the end of the second round, Wake Forest held onto its first-round lead with a 14-under 554 total after firing a one-under 283 on the second day. Florida is three strokes back in second place with a 557 total while Georgia and Tennessee are tied for third place with 558 totals, Duke is fifth at 559 and East Tennessee State is sixth at 566.
Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State grabbed the individual lead after two rounds with an 11-under 131 total. Davies fired a six-under 65 in the second round to go with the five-under 66 he shot the first day. Michael Schachner of Duke is one stroke back in second place with a 132 total after posting a scorching eight-under 63 in the second round. Five players are tied for third place with eight-under 134 totals - Florida's Matt Every, Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers, Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson, Georgia's Brendon Todd and Tennessee's Ross McGowan.
Sophomore Martin Ureta led the way for the Tar Heels and is tied for 13th place with a four-under 138 total after carding rounds of 67-71. Kevin Silva and Ted Smith both posted two-over 144 totals and are tied for 48th place while Jonathan Jackson is tied for 77th place with a 148 total and Doug Kingston is tied for 104th with a 152 total.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Saturday at The Golf Club of Tennessee which features a par 71, 6,864-yard layout. The top 10 teams will advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 31-June 3 in Baltimore, Md.
