Prossner Named First-Team All-America; McElduff Tapped For Third Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - University of North Carolina senior attackman Jed Prossner was named a first-team All-America on attack by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Saturday as announced on ESPN2 at haltime of the first semifinal game of the NCAA Tournament. For Prossner, an Easton, Md. native who prepped at the McDonogh School, this is his second successive selection to the first-team All-America squad after being named to the second team as a sophomore in 2003.
Tar Heel junior defenseman Stephen McElduff also earned All-America honors on Saturday as the Yorktown, N.Y. native was named to the third-team All-America squad. McElduff was an honorable mention choice last year. Both McElduff and Prossner will participate in tryouts in June in an effort to earn membership on the U.S. Team which will compete in the 2006 World Lacrosse Games.
Prossner becomes only the third attackman in North Carolina history to be named first-team All-America multiple years in a row, joining Harper Peterson (1968-70) and Michael Burnett (1981-82).
Prossner led the Tar Heels in scoring in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and this year finished second on the team in scoring with 29 goals and 15 assists for 44 points. He was second on the team in points, in goals and in assists.
Prossner was also named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team this season, the first Tar Heel to be named three successive years since 1983.
Prossner finished his Tar Heel career with 113 career goals, second all-time in UNC lore. His 172 career points left him in a tie for seventh place in Carolina history with Mac Ford (1982-85).
