Carolina finally went into full pads for Tuesday's practice, marking the fifth practice of training camp and the end of the five-day NCAA-mandated acclimation period. The session was moved from the afternoon to the morning because of concerns about thunderstorms. Kenny Price singled out fellow defensive tackle Kyndraus Guy as landing the hardest hit of the day, but Guy demurred. "I don't even know what he's talking about," Guy said. "I had one hit in the backfield, but I didn't really hit him, I just tapped him." Of course, Guy's taps are roughly equivalent to the most lethal forearm shiver ever delivered by any sportswriter...
For the second straight day, John Bunting seemed pleased with his squad's production on the practice field. "There were a number of licks out there today," he said. "We're a much more physical team. I see it being very evident on defense, and that's what we needed."...Linwood Williams picked off an interception and returned it for a touchdown during a team period...
Tuesday was Antwain Carey Day in the constant backup tailback rotation. "Each day, each practice, each period, Andre (Powell) has a plan for that," Bunting said. "Antwain Carey ran some today and Cooter didn't play as much. R.J. Waters got some reps and Richie Rich got some reps. Right now it's Barrington (Edwards) and then the rest. All of them are going to get reps. As we move further along, we'll more clearly define what we want to do."...Jacoby Watkins and David Wooldridge missed practice again. Khalif Mitchell continues to be limited. A new name on the injured list was Roger Heinz, who sat out Tuesday's session...
Wallace Wright--who was mentioned by Bunting after practice as a likely kickoff returner along with Del Roberts and Trimane Goddard--made several nice catches...Bunting continues to say that Rich, Arnold, and Jermaine Strong have a chance to contribute in punt or kick returns...
Two-a-days start tomorrow. Here's the plan: for the morning session we'll provide the usual batch of notes and quotes. For the evening session we'll provide some notes, plus we'll try to answer some reader emails, which are starting to pile up.
