
Elizabeth Guess Named Hardee's Carolina Performer of the Week

Elizabeth Guess scored two goals and had two assists in a pair of women's soccer wins and is the first recipient of the Hardees Carolina Performer of the Week for 2005-06. A junior from Athens, Ga., Guess led the Tar Heels to a 7-1 win over No. 11 Tennessee and a 3-0 victory over No. 22 Colorado.
Despite starting the 2005 season this past weekend minus four returning starters due to injuries, UNC, behind Guess' heroics, dominated offensively, outscoring the Lady Vols and the Golden Buffaloes, 10-1. Guess scored the game-winning goal and had two assists in the win over Tennessee and she scored Carolina's second goal in the win over Colorado.

Led the Tar Heels to a 2-1 comeback win over UNC Wilmington in an exhibition match Saturday. Scored Carolina's first goal on a penalty kick to tie the game at one in the first half. Set up Stephen Bickford's game-winning header with corner kick at 83:00. Hunter and the Tar Heels open the regular season this weekend at VCU's Alltel/Nike Classic.

Senior goalkeeper Katy Tran picked up two shutouts as the Tar Heels opened the season with a pair of wins at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa. Saturday against Michigan, she made seven saves as UNC beat the Wolverines 2-0. On Sunday against host Iowa, Tran saved three shots as Carolina won 1-0.
