Spencer Named Coastal Plain Hitter of the Week

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina first baseman Matt Spencer was named the Coastal Plain League's Rawlings Hitter of the Week for week eight Monday. He is the second Tar Heel to capture league honors, as teammate Seth Williams earned the CPL's Hitter of the Week award in week four.
A member of the Asheboro Copperheads, Spencer hit .412 over four games (7-17) and totaled three doubles and nine runs batted in. He also scored two runs and was walked once. Spencer notched a .588 slugging percentage to go with a .421 on-base percentage. Overall, he is batting .264 through 34 games, and has totaled 29 hits, including a team-best 10 doubles, a triple, three home runs and a team-high 24 RBI.
As a freshman with the Tar Heels in 2005, Spencer hit .222 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 28 games.
