Hansbrough Named Tar Heel Performer Of The Week

Tyler Hansbrough scored 43 points in wins over Davidson and NC State and had the best free throw shooting effort by a Tar Heel in 30 years and is the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for January 2-8, 2006.
The freshman from Poplar Bluff, Mo., had a season-high 23 against Davidson and a game-high 20 in the 82-69 win over No. 12 NC State.
He went 9 for 19 from the floor and 23 for 25 from the free throw line in the two contests. Hansbrough went 14 for 14 from the line against NC State, the best single-game performance by a Tar Heel in 30 years. Broke 69-all tie with 2:32 to play with a dunk.

Little led UNC with 16 points and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds as the Tar Heels opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 102-61 win over Clemson Friday. The junior forward was 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line and also had two steals in 22 minutes of play.

Redshirt freshman Vincent Ramirez went 3-0 and allowed just four points over three bouts, as North Carolina went 2-1 Saturday at the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Durham, N.C., native opened with a 19-1 technical fall victory over Northern Colorado's Richard Lohr in the Tar Heels' 27-12 victory. Ramirez followed with a 5-0 shutout of Stanford's Tyler Parker in a 21-10 UNC win and closed out the day with a 6-3 win over Wisconsin's Tony Turner in a 21-15 loss to the No. 18 Badgers. Ramirez is now 23-6 on the season, including an 8-1 mark in dual matches.
