ELON SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 5-1 all-time against Elon.
Despite having played Carolina just six times, Elon is one of UNC's oldest rivals. The two teams met twice in 1975, Carolina's first year of women's basketball, and once in 1976. The series did not resume until the 2000-01 season, however, but the teams have met every other year since.
Carolina won the last meeting, scoring an 86-40 win on Nov. 19, 2004.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Elon won its season opener Saturday against Campbell, 60-46. The Phoenix returns seven players from last year's squad that finished 12-16 and 7-11 in the Southern Conference. Elon is one of four Southern Conference teams UNC will face this year (UNCG, Wofford, Western Carolina).
Most notably, Elon is without Kitara McMoore, a first-team all-conference selection in 2006. McMoore, who led the league in both scoring and rebounding, will miss the season due to a knee injury. Elon is coached by Brenda Paul. Paul is in her 13th season with the Phoenix, making her the longest-tenured coach in school history.
