Tar Heels Sweep Eagles In Boston

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --- Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland hit a career-high .706 with 14 kills as North Carolina swept Boston College, 30-27, 30-26, 30-20, Friday afternoon at Power Gym. The Tar Heels trailed for just three points the entire match and won their fifth match in six contests.
Carolina (11-19, 9-12 Atlantic Coast Conference) led throughout in game on en route to a 30-27 win. Hanson-Tuntland was the driving force for the Tar Heels, finishing the frame with six kills on six swings and two blocks. The UNC lead was as much as nine at 18-9, but BC (11-19, 9-12 ACC) rallied behind Dorota Niemczewska. Niemczewska had a game-high eight kills, including five in a six-point stretch that saw the Eagles pull within two at 20-18. Carolina would hold the hosts off, however, with Heather Brooks recording back-to-back kills to end it.
Hanson-Tuntland was strong again in game two, finishing with six kills against just one error. Carolina built an early 10-4 lead before BC won seven of 10 to cut the lead to two at 13-11. But the Tar Heels would begin to pull away, eventually leading by as many as seven before securing a 30-26 win.
After falling behind 2-0 to open game three, the Tar Heels were able to limit the BC attack and cruise to a 30-20 win. The Eagles hit just -.022 for the frame, committing nine errors against just eight kills. Amy Beaver and Megan Owens combined for eight kills and three blocks, as UNC won its third straight match.
Stephanie Jansma filled up the box score with 36 assists, eight digs, six kills and two blocks, while Brianna Eskola and Ashley Board led the Tar Heels with dig totals of 14 and 11, respectively.
UNC will look to close the season on a four-match winning streak Saturday at noon against Maryland.
