NBA Update: Week 21
Former Tar Heel Raymond Felton had one of the best weeks of his NBA career before sitting out a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, due to abdominal pain. He recorded two double-doubles on the week, taking his season total to seven. Felton scored 30 points, one shy of his career-high of 31, and handed out 10 assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also tied a career-high in assists, with 13 in a victory over the Orlando Magic. In addition, Felton grabbed seven rebounds in two games during week 21, one short of his season-high of eight. Felton ranks in the top five among rookies in points per game, assists per game, and double-doubles on the season. Despite his impressive contributions late in the season, the Bobcats have been eliminated from playoff contention with a record of 19-52.
Week 21 Update on Former Tar Heels in the NBA:
Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets - Started at guard in all four games. He scored 28 points and had five assists in the Nets' 112-100 victory over the Washington Wizards. He also scored 21 points, handed out seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds in a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nets return to action Wednesday night when they host the Memphis Grizzlies.
Raymond Felton, Charlotte Bobcats - Started at guard in three games. He missed Sunday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies due to abdominal pains stemming from a car crash in February. Prior to sitting out a game, Felton recorded two double-doubles on the week. He scored 30 points, one point shy of his season-high of 31, and handed out 10 assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also scored 16 points and handed out 13 assists in a win against the Orlando Magic. Felton is expected to return to the lineup when the Bobcats face the Atlanta Hawks tonight.
Brendan Haywood, Washington Wizards - Started at center in three of the four games. He scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds against the New Jersey Nets. The Wizards return to action tonight when they travel to Sacramento to face the Kings.
Antawn Jamison, Washington Wizards - Started at forward in all four games. He knocked down a career-high seven three-pointers in the Wizards' 109-97 victory over the Utah Jazz. Jamison also recorded two double-doubles in week 21, taking his season total to 34. He led the team in scoring, with 31 points, against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Wizards return to action tonight against the Sacramento Kings.
Sean May, Charlotte Bobcats - Missed week 21 due to knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on January 19. The Bobcats return to action tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.
Rashad McCants, Minnesota Timberwolves - Started at guard in three of the team's four games. He played a season-high 36 minutes against the Toronto Raptors. McCants scored 17 points and handed out three assists in the Timberwolves' 98-94 victory over the New York Knicks. The Timberwolves return to action Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic.
Jeff McInnis, New Jersey Nets - Missed week 21 due to knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on January 19 to remove torn cartilage. McInnis suffered the injury in the Nets' game against the Dallas Mavericks on January 14. The Nets return to action Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Jerry Stackhouse, Dallas Mavericks - Played forward in all three games. He scored 16 points in victories over the Houston Rockets and the Atlanta Hawks. Stackhouse has helped the Dallas Mavericks clinch an early playoff berth with a record of 54-16. The team returns to action tonight against the Detroit Pistons.
Rasheed Wallace, Detroit Pistons - Started at forward in all three games. He scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Pistons' 73-72 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Wallace also grabbed 10 rebounds in a victory over the Miami Heat. He has helped the Pistons clinch the Central Division and an early playoff berth with a league-best record of 55-14. The Pistons return to action tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.
Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks - Played forward in all three games. He recorded a double-double against the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Williams also scored 21 points against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Hawks return to action tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats.
