CHAPEL HILL -- The Carolina women's lacrosse team will play its last regular-season home game of the season when it hosts Maryland on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field in a battle of two of the top teams in the nation. The game will mark the final regular-season home appearances for UNC seniors Stephanie Scurachio, Lindsey Stover and Kristen Tadlock.
The Tar Heels are ranked No. 6 this week in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll and Maryland is No. 5. UNC is 10-3 this season overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Carolina is tied with Duke and Virginia at 3-1 atop the ACC standings. Saturday's contest is UNC's last conference game of the year. Duke will play at Boston College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its final ACC game. Virginia will play at Virginia Tech on Friday night to complete its conference regular season. Earlier this season, UNC won at Virginia and lost to Duke. Virginia won at Duke on April 1.
Carolina has won seven of its last eight games since losing its second game in a row on March 11 versus Boston University. The Tar Heels' only loss during its last eight games was an 8-7 decision at No. 4 Georgetown on March 31. UNC won 14-6 at Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon.
Maryland is 10-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC. In their last outing, the Terrapins won on the road at No. 2 Johns Hopkins last Sunday. Maryland has won seven of its last eight games entering Saturday's matchup in Chapel Hill, losing only to Georgetown in College Park, Md., during that stretch.
