ATLANTA --- Vikas Gowda, Georgia Kloss, Sheena Gordon and Jocelyn White were individual event winners to lead the University of North Carolina track and field teams on day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Gowda won his second event in as many days with a victory in the discus. His winning mark of 195 feet (59.45 meters) topped teammate Nick Owens. Owens placed second with a throw of 177-8 (54.15m). He also competed in the hammer throw, taking fourth with a mark of 218-0 (66.46m).
Kloss continued her stellar outdoor season in the 800. Her winning time of 2:07.64 edged ACC rivals Ginou Etienne of Miami (2:07.82) and Natalie Hughes of Florida State (2:07.97).
Gordon, the 2006 NCAA indoor champion in the high jump, scored a win in the event Saturday with a top height of 6-0 (1.83m). Teammate Ashley Haislip was sixth (5-7/1.70m). Gordon was also fourth in the triple jump with a season-best effort of 42-4 1/4 (12.91m).
White led a Carolina sweep of the women's discus. Her winning throw of 168-11 (51.50m) edged teammate Laura Gerraughty's mark of 166-8 (50.81m). Marija Kurtovic rounded out the sweep with a third-place throw of 163-2 (49.74m).
Next up for the Tar Heels is the NCAA East Regional meet May 26-27 at NC A&T University in Greensboro.
