North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "First off, my congratulations to Cal State Fullerton. They are an outstanding ball club and one of the best teams we have faced. It's exciting to say that we are playing for a national championship. We had some big swings of the bat from Jay (Cox). We made some terrific plays at the end defensively. Everything seemed to fall into place."
(about playing for a national championship): "That's what you play for. To see the look on the kids' faces; that's what it's all about."
North Carolina Leftfielder Jay Cox
(about his two home runs): "I was 1-10 and beating myself up. Coach said I'd get big hits when it counts. I just put the barrel of the bat on the ball."
(about his catch in the ninth inning): "At first, I thought I'd have to come in. I felt the track, jumped up, and caught it."
North Carolina Starting Pitcher Daniel Bard
(about facing Cal State Fullerton): "We have a great bullpen to start with. They are a great hitting team. They probably had eight or nine two-strike hits."
(about his defense): "My defense has been issue for a while. A lot of teams try to bunt on me. I proved that I can field my position today."
North Carolina Pitcher Andrew Miller
(about closing): "I knew I had to throw bullpen today. There was a chance I could pitch if the situation called for it. I threw pitches over the plate to get the out."
Cal State Fullerton Head Coach George Horton
(opening statement): "I'm a little emotional right now. My sadness is I can't compete anymore with these guys. We came up short on the scoreboard. It's a difficult pill to swallow. I don't feel like we lost in this tournament. I commend the guys."
(about the decision to bunt): "(Shortstop) Blake's (Davis) a very good bunter. We had it set up that way. We're not going to second guess it. It was the right play. He's our best bunter. I knew that was the play. I could have stopped it and I didn't."
(about the pitching): "It was more of a case that North Carolina had good hitters. There are a couple of pitches we'd like to get back. We pitched under the level of our ERA all year, but it's tough to do when the bar is raised higher here. We don't give up freebies."
Cal State Fullerton Catcher John Curtis
(about the bunt): "I thought it was a good bunt. He's a good athlete and got a good jump off the mound."
Cal State Fullerton Starting Pitcher Wes Roemer
(about his pitching performance): "Before the game I felt I was 100 percent. Nothing was tired, nothing sore. I felt like it was any other start. All my pitches were working. All the sudden they started getting hits. I couldn't be more proud of this team."
