In his 10th NBA season, former Tar Heel Vince Carter is having one of the best years of his career. He leads his New Jersey Nets in all scoring categories with 25.4 ppg and 67 three-pointers. Also turning in a fine year thus far is Raymond Felton who is averaging 7.4 apg for the Charlotte Bobcats. He ranks in the top 20 in the NBA for both steals (46) and assist-turnover (2.65).
Update on former Tar Heels in the NBA:
Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets- Started in all 31 games this season for the Nets and leads the team in scoring. He is the NBA's 11th leading scoring at 25.4 ppg and has played the third most minutes in the NBA this season. He has connected on 67 three-pointers, 7th best in the NBA. Carter scored a season-high 41 points in a 112- 107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers early in December. At 13-18, the Nets are tied with the Toronto Raptors for first place in the Atlantic Division.
Raymond Felton, Charlotte Bobcats- Started in 27 of 29 games this season for the Bobcats and leads the team in assists at 7.4 apg, the 11th best mark in the NBA. After averaging 11.6 ppg last season, Felton is averaging 13.6 ppg this season and is playing an average of 38 minutes a game. Two of Felton's best games have come in his last two where he had 22 points and 15 assists in a triple-overtime thriller over the Lakers; he followed that up with 10 points and 19 assists in a win at Indiana.
Brendan Haywood, Washington Wizards- Started in nine of 29 games this season for the Wizards and is averaging 6.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg. He has recorded two double-doubles in his past five games- both resulting in wins over two Western Conference teams. His first came in a win at Sacramento where he had 12 points and 14 rebounds. The following night, he turned in 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Wizards snapped the Suns' 15-game win streak.
Antawn Jamison, Washington Wizards- Started in all 30 games this season for the Wizards and is their leading rebounder with 8.3 rpg. Behind Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler, Jamison is the team's third leading scorer with 19.4 ppg. He has connected on 58 three-pointers this year, 13th best in the NBA. He turned in a season-best performance at Sacramento on December 21st where he scored 33 points and had 13 boards. Jamison has recorded a double-double in nine games this season. The Wizards currently sit in first place in the Southeast Division with a record of 17-13.
Sean May, Charlotte Bobcats- Started in six of 24 games this season for the Bobcats and is averaging 12.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. May missed six straight games in December due to a sprained right ankle. He has recorded five double-doubles and his season thus far has been highlighted by a 17 rebound performance against Atlanta and a 32 point effort in a win over Orlando. May and the Bobcats are 9-22 on the season, but most of their wins have come against quality opponents (Spurs, Pistons, Lakers, Jazz, Cavs, Magic).
Rashad McCants, Minnesota Timberwolves- Recovering from microfracture surgery on his right knee and may return to action in late January.
Jeff McInnis, New Jersey Nets- Has not seen any game action this season.
Jerry Stackhouse, Dallas Mavericks- Started in eight of 21 games this season for the Mavs and is averaging 11.3 ppg. He has missed nine games in December with a sprained left ankle.
Rasheed Wallace, Detroit Pistons- Started 27 games this season for the Pistons and is averaging 12.8 ppg and 8.7 rpg. He has taken over as the team's leading rebounder and blocker since Ben Wallace left over the summer. He has recorded six double-doubles thus far. Wallace and the Pistons are in first place of the Central Division with a record of 18-11.
Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks- Started 11 of 12 games for the Hawks this season after missing the team's first 17 games with a broken wrist. He returned to action on December 8th and is averaging 12.4 ppg and 4.2 rpg. Williams scored a season-high 23 points on two occasions (at Knicks, vs. Bulls).
Shammond Williams, Los Angeles Lakers- Played in six games this season and has served as a reserve point guard.
