CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (16-0) returns to the court less than 48 hours after its ACC opener when the Tar Heels meet Virginia Tech Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium. Carolina has won 16 straight to open the season for the second year in a row and the third time in school history after defeating Georgia Tech 69-57 on Tuesday. The Tar Heels are ranked No. 2 in the nation in both polls for the ninth straight week. Virginia Tech is 10-5 after defeating Wake Forest 74-54 on Tuesday night.

VIRGINIA TECH SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 8-2 all-time against Virginia Tech, including a 5-0 mark in Chapel Hill.
Carolina has won both meetings in the series since Virginia Tech joined the ACC for the 2004-05 season.
The Tar Heels won the only game in the series last year, an 84-75 victory in Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech's last win in the series came during the 1984-85 season, when the Hokies won 74-73 in Roanoke, Va.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is 10-5 after winning its ACC opener against Wake Forest 74-54 on Tuesday.
After starting the season 4-4, Virginia Tech has won six of seven, including three straight. The lone loss during that stretch was a 70-59 setback at UAB.
Virginia Tech is led in scoring by senior guard Kirby Copeland (15.5 ppg) and senior center Nare Diawara (12.1). Diawara also leads the Hokies in rebounding (8.3 rpg).
The Tar Heels and Hokies have four common opponents - Delaware State, Tennessee Tech, East Tennessee State and Winston-Salem State. Both teams were 4-0 against those teams, but Carolina's average margin of victory was 50.0, while Virginia Tech's was 16.3.
