Freshman tailback Anthony Elzy
On the upcoming game against Miami:
"Watching film on Miami, they are a very fast team and very athletic as the world knows. So we are going to have to bring our best game I believe and we are getting ready right now."
On the success of running the ball in the 4th quarter:
"It was an experience for me; it was a growing experience for the tailback as well as the line. I think we grew as a group as the best that we have all year. We've learned so much in that fourth quarter than we have all year."
On the ability and relationship of the four running backs:
"I would say I am not the most elusive one, I think Johnny and Richie Rich are. Me and Ryan Houston are the power backs, I would say. It is going well we are not looking at it as a competition. We are teaching each other things as we learn them; it's more of a brotherhood we look at it like. We joke and laugh all the time and have a good time at practice, before, after and during the game. It's just when the coach calls upon you, you have to perform."
On losing two tough road games in a row:
"I think it is just us being young and we are still learning, we have a lot of years within this football program. I think that we can pull that together, it is just a learning experience and we are going to make it through it."
Freshman defensive tackle Marvin Austin
On the defense's growth over the last few quarters:
"I mean think we have gotten better, I think we have matured a lot. With a lot of young guys we are maturing a lot, believing more and I think a lot of guys are working harder. Everybody is trying to master their craft and that is what it is going to take to have a great defense. Not making mental mistakes and going out there giving great effort and flying around."
On coming off two tough road losses:
"We are not down at all because the games that we lost, we beat ourselves basically. So now it is just correcting the mental mistakes, a lot of the things we see are correctable. It is not like a team just outright dominated us."
On North Carolina's last win over Miami and impact on recruitment:
"I do remember that day, I forgot who the running back was (Chad Scott).....everybody was talking about who is this guy, he was holding his own out there. Then Connor hit the field goal and it was just crazy. Of course I noticed North Carolina when they beat Miami, Miami was one of the top prolific programs in the country. At that time I didn't even really think of college football a lot, I didn't know that I was going to be recruited and all that stuff."
On the difference in strength between high school and college football:
"If you listen to your coaches, like Coach Blake is one of the best coaches in the country, so I just listen to him and go out there and do what he tells me. I was pretty strong coming out of high school and what not, just as strong as most of the guys playing college football. The harder thing for me is just keeping my pads low and playing with my strength. Me, I don't know how to play with my strength yet that's something I have to work on. I wouldn't say it's harder just more technical."
