Tar Heels are Tied for Eighth at The Women's Landfall Tradition

Wilmington, N.C. - After the first day at The Women's Landfall Tradition, the Tar Heels are tied for eighth place with Tulsa, after shooing a 22-over 310. Purdue is the only team to shoot under-par on the day, and lead the tournament by three strokes at one-under par 287.

Virginia is three strokes off the lead at two-over 290. Wake Forest, the top ACC team, is in third place after shooting eight-over 296. Ohio State and Michigan State round out the top five, shooting nine-over 297 and 11-over 299 respectively. The tournament features eight teams in the top-50.

Senior Ann Laney of Charlotte, N.C. and junior Lauren Hunt of Little River, S.C. led the way for the Tar Heels carding a three-over 75 to be tied for 14th. Senior Colette Lowe of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. and sophomore Kate Thomas of Murwillumbah, Australia both finished at eight-over 80 and are tied for 42nd. Freshman Margaret Pentrack of Pittsburgh, Pa. was the final Tar Heel, shooting nine-over 81 and is tied for 47th.

Christel Boeljon of Purdue fired a four-under 68 and leads by one stroke. Laura Crawford shot three-under 67 and is in sole second. Calle Nielson of Virginia is two strokes off the lead after shooting a two-under 70. Maria Hernandez of Purdue and Lene Krog of Virginia are tied for fourth at one-under 71. Thirteen players are within six strokes of the lead.

The second round of the Women's Landfall Tradition is being played Saturday October 26 at the Country Club of Landfall. The course is par 72 6072 yard from the Championship tees.
