Tar Heels' Fall World Series Opens Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Rosters and starting pitchers have been set for North Carolina baseball's annual Fall World Series, which opens Tuesday at USA Baseball National Training Complex Stadium in Cary. The best-of-five intra-squad series will feature the Carolina Blue Sox against the Sox Slayers. Admission to all Fall World Series games is free of charge.
The Tar Heels' six seniors were split up and drafted the teams last Thursday. Mike Facchinei, Chad Flack and Rob Wooten chose for the Carolina Blue Sox, while Kyle Shelton, Tyler Trice and Seth Williams picked the Sox Slayers. Assistants Chad Holbrook and Scott Forbes will coach the Blue Sox, with head coach Mike Fox and assistant Matt McCay serving as skippers of the Sox Slayers.
Carolina returns seven position starters from last year's record-setting 57-win club, including national freshman of the year Dustin Ackley, all-conference catcher Tim Federowicz and seniors Chad Flack and Seth Williams. Returning right-handers Adam Warren and Alex White combined for 18 wins a year ago, and the Tar Heels have added another talented crop of freshman hurlers, including top-five round draft choices Matt Harvey and Nate Striz.
