No. 3 Tar Heels Face Western Kentucky Thursday

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- North Carolina (11-1) will play its final game before breaking for the Christmas holiday when the Tar Heels take on Western Kentucky Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Carolina is coming off an 82-58 win at Coastal Carolina Dec. 17. WKU enters Thursday's matchup with a record of 6-4 after a 76-60 home loss to Louisville on Sunday. UNC is ranked No. 3 in both the AP poll and the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll for the second week in a row. Western Kentucky is unranked.

WESTERN KENTUCKY SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 1-0 all-time against Western Kentucky.
The only other game in the series was also played at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. On Dec. 20, 1997, UNC defeated the Lady Toppers, 88-67, behind 30 points from All-America standout Tracy Reid.
CAROLINA AT THE BEACH
Carolina has played at least one game in the Myrtle Beach/Conway area every year since 1994.
The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 19-4 in Myrtle Beach/Conway that includes wins in each of the last six seasons.
Last season, UNC scored a pair of wins at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The Tar Heels defeated Coastal Carolina, 87-48, and St. John's, 87-43.
NOTING THE LADY TOPPERS
Western Kentucky is 6-4 on the season after a 76-60 home loss to Louisville on Sunday.
The Lady Toppers are led in scoring and rebounding by senior forward Crystal Kelly, who is averaging 21.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest.
Kelly enters Thursday's game 13 points shy of becoming the all-time leading scorer in WKU history. She currently has 2,250 career points. Kelly is also just 15 rebounds short of becoming the school's all-time rebounding leader.
WKU is led by sixth year head coach Mary Taylor Cowles, a former standout player from 1987-91.
