Hansbrough And Latta Named Progress Energy Performers Of The Week

Tyler Hansbrough posted double-doubles in consecutive games and Ivory Latta became the first basketball player in ACC history to win three ACC Tournament MVP honors and are co-recipients of the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week award for February 26-March 4, 2007.
Hansbrough had 26 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in Carolina's 86-72 win over Duke that gave UNC a season sweep of the Blue Devils. Earlier, he had 16 points and 10 boards in a loss at Georgia Tech. He went 10 for 18 from the floor against the Blue Devils in posting his 14th career double-double and 27th 20-point game.
Latta earned MVP honors for the third time in as many years, an unprecedented accomplishment. She averaged 18.7 points and made 12 of 22 three-pointers in the three wins over Virginia Tech, Maryland and NC State. She had 20 points in the championship game win over the Wolfpack.

The senior attacker tallied nine total points in two Tar Heel road wins last weekend. Juras had three goals in the 13-7 win at Loyola on Friday afternoon while also collecting two ground balls. She recorded a career-high six points in the 14-6 win at Temple, posting three goals, three assists, two ground balls and two draw controls in the victory.

Senior, Wernersville, Pa.
Sola captured his third Atlantic Coast Conference title at 133 pounds to lead North Carolina to a third-place finish at the league championships Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum. Also the ACC champion in 2003 and 2005, Sola scored a 7-0 decision over Virginia's Eric Albright in the title bout to cap his final ACC Championships appearance. The Wernersville, Pa., native will make his fourth trip to the NCAA Championships and first since 2005 after missing last season with a shoulder injury. He is the first Tar Heel to win three ACC titles since Matt Kenney captured his third in 2002.
LUKE PUTKONEN

Putkonen struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed just four hits over 5 2/3 innings Sunday against Penn State. The Marietta, Ga., native allowed three straight singles to open the game but came back to strike out the side and retire 13 consecutive batters. Putkonen improved to 3-0 on the season and 9-0 in his career with the victory.

Chris Kearney, a freshman from Irvine, Calif., went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles Sunday to lead the Tar Heels to a doubleheader victory over Navy 7-0 and James Madison 7-0. Kearney improved to 8-0 this spring in singles play with the two straight sets victories and he and Fogleman improved to 9-0 in doubles play. The two wins improve North Carolina to 10-0 on the season and Carolina has now won 34 successive regular-season non-conference matches. Kearney improved to 15-2 overall in singles during 2006-07 and 15-3 overall in doubles.

Katie Miller carded a third-place finish in Carolina's first event of the spring campaign, the Chrysler Challenge in Destin, Fla. Miller fired a pair of two-over-par 73s in the final two rounds after carding a six-over 77 in the opening round. She finished with a 10-over 223 total, just one stroke behind the runner-up and eight strokes behind the individual champion, Caroline Westrup of Florida State.
Carolina was the runner-up in the team race with a 919 total after carding rounds of 314-307-298. The Tar Heels finished 24 strokes behind host Florida State in the 54-hole event that was played at Sandestin Golf Resort's Baytowne Course which features a par 71, 6,095-yard layout.
The Tar Heels next event is the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational which will be played March 10-11 in Gainesville, Fla.
