Carolina vs. NC State Postgame Notes

* The 14-5 win over NC State snapped a six-game losing streak in the ACC Tournament for Carolina. The Tar Heels last tourney win was a 6-5 victory over Clemson in 2004 in Salem, Va. Robert Woodard also started that game and allowed three runs over four innings.
* Carolina will play Virginia at 1 p.m. Saturday for the right to advance to the ACC title game Sunday. The Tar Heels have not reached the championship game since winning their last title in 1990.
* With Thursday's win, Carolina improved to 3-1 against State this season and 6-2 over the last two years. The victory was the Tar Heels' first over the Wolfpack in the ACC Tournament since a 6-2 win in 1993. UNC is now 8-11 in the postseason versus NCSU.
* The victory over the No. 25 Wolfpack moved the Tar Heels to 14-6 versus nationally-ranked teams this season. Carolina has won eight of its last 10 against ranked teams.
* Dustin Ackley went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI to set a Carolina rookie record for hits and match the freshman mark for RBI. He now has 105 hits on the season to rank third all-time at Carolina, and his 62 RBI equal Tim Federowicz's rookie mark set in 2006. Ackley has five multi-hit games in the last six outings and extended his current hitting streak to 14 games.
* With 7 2/3 strong innings Thursday, Robert Woodard won his career-best ninth game and improved to 32-5 in his career. He is Carolina's all-time winningest pitcher and is just the 14th pitcher in ACC history to win 32 or more games.
* Tim Fedroff had a career-best four hits and two RBI to move his hit streak to a career-best eight games. He has six hits in the ACC Tournament and has also hit safely in 19 of the last 23 games.
* Chad Flack had one of his best games of the season with a 3-for-5 effort with three runs scored and two RBI. He now has 155 career RBI to rank 10th all-time at Carolina.
* Josh Horton also added three hits for his third multi-hit game in the last four.
* Reid Fronk, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI, has led off the last two games against NC State with an extra-base hit. He doubled on the first pitch from Eric Surkamp tonight and opened the April 29 win with a solo home run.
* Thursday's game marked the second straight season that the Tar Heels and Wolfpack have met in the ACC Tournament. NC State posted a 9-3 win in 2006 before the Tar Heels' 14-5 win tonight.
