Charlotte - The 90 youths registered to attend NBA Washington Wizards' All-Star and Charlotte native Antawn Jamison's upcoming All-Star Basketball Camp are in for quite an unexpected and unique treat.
Sports Illustrated magazine is working with Jamison to create an ad for Rockport that will introduce and promote its new collection featuring Adidas Torsion technology, scheduled to launch worldwide this fall. During the second day of Jamison's three-day camp, which will take place at Providence High School (his alma mater) on July 9-11, the campers will get to observe and possibly participate in the photo shoot.
"I'm glad to be able to provide this opportunity for these kids to watch and possibly even participate in this photo shoot with Sports Illustrated and Rockport," says Jamison. "How many people ever get to see how these shoe advertisements really get made? For all we know, one of our kids may experience this and decide that they want to be a photographer or even design their own shoes one day. Exposing kids to out of the ordinary things like this help to mold them and make them grow into extraordinary adults."
Jamison's camp, which is in its second year, helps raise money for his "A Better Tomorrow" community relations initiative, for which he has won numerous awards, including the NBA's Community Assist Award in 2003. Jamison allows half of the kids in the camp to attend at no charge.
