SAINT LOUIS, MO. AND MISSION, KANSAS - Kerri Hanks (Allen, Texas) of the University of Notre Dame, the 2006 winner of the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, is among the 46 players who are included in the Women's 2007 Hermann Trophy Watch List released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) today. A year ago the second and third place finishers were both Tar Heels -- senior forward Heather O'Reilly and sophomore midfielder Yael Averbuch. A total of 14 schools have more than one representative on the list. Reigning NCAA champion North Carolina claimed the lion's share with four, including 2006 MAC Hermann Trophy finalist Yael Averbuch (Upper Montclair, N.J.). She is joined by Tar Heel teammates Tobin Heath (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Jessica Maxwell (Colleyville, Texas) and Allie Long (Northport, N.Y.), a transfer from Penn State. Florida, Portland and UCLA each have three players on the list, while BYU, Connecticut, Illinois, Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Virginia and William and Mary each have two.
Players are selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List by a committee of Division I coaches who are NSCAA members. In November, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists. Three finalists will be named in early December in conjunction with the NCAA Division I College Cup and will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, January 11, 2008. The winner of the 2007 award will be announced during a nationally-televised news conference that evening.
