Carolina Golfers Seventh After Two Rounds Of Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. -- The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a three-over-par 291 for a 586 total to move up to seventh place after two rounds of the Cougar Classic. The Tar Heels climbed two spots after being in ninth place after the first round.
Tennessee lead the field of 20 teams with an even par 576 after firing an even par 288 on the first two days. Notre Dame is three strokes back in second place at three-over 579 after carding a 292 on day two. Texas is in third place with a 581 total while NC?State and Louisiana State are tied for fifth with 585 totals, just one stroke ahead of the Tar Heels.
Sophomore Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, is the low Tar Heel in a tie for 19th place with a one-over 145 total after firing a 73 in the second round. Defending champion Lauren Hunt, a junior from Little River, S.C., is one stroke back in a tie for 23rd at 146 after carding a pair of 73s. Junior Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., fired a one-under 71, the low round of the day for the Tar Heels, and is tied for 26th with a 147 total. Seniors Ann Laney and Colette Lowe are tied for 47th place going into the final round. Lowe, from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., carded a 74 while Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., shot 77.
So-Hyun Park from Notre Dame leads all individuals with a five-under 139 total after firing a three-under 69 on Monday. Lisa Maunu of Notre Dame and Marci Turner of Tennessee are just one stroke back in a tie for second place at four-under 140. Fiona Puyo of Charleston is in fourth place with a 141 total while Lauren Doughtie of NC State and Kylene Pulley of South Florida are tied for fifth place at 142.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at Yeamans Hall which features a par 72, 6,159-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
