February 11, 2008 | Men's Basketball
Feb. 11, 2008

Tyler Hansbrough averaged 33.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in the two games against Duke and Clemson last week and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for February 4-10, 2008. He was a combined 23 for 37 (.622) from the floor and 21 of 28 (.750) from the free throw line. He had 28 points and 18 rebounds, game highs for both teams in both categories, in the loss to Duke, then had a season-high 39 points as well as 13 rebounds in the double-overtime, comeback win over Clemson. The 39 points are the most by an ACC player this year, the second time in the last five games he has scored 35 or more points, and the second-most in Smith Center history by any player. He made 17 of 19 free throws, setting a personal best for free throws made in a game and tying his single-game high for attempts. He broke the career UNC record for free throw attempts in the game.
The Poplar Bluff, Mo., junior scored seven of the Tar Heels' 13 points in the second overtime period, outscoring the Tigers, 7-3, in that second OT. He also had three steals, the key one coming in the second overtime with UNC holding a three-point lead. The steal led to a pair of free throws and a 7-0 Tar Heel run to end the game.
