Larkins Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Erlana Larkins averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds in two wins and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for February 10-16, 2008. Larkins helped UNC move to 11-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Larkins notched her third straight double-double in a 90-82 win at Virginia, finishing with 21 points and a season-high 18 rebounds. She followed that with an impressive 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals in a 97-77 win over Florida State on Sunday. The seven assists and six steals were season highs, despite the fact that Larkins sat most of the second half with the outcome no longer in doubt. The Riviera Beach, Fla., senior is now averaging 15.3 points and 10.6 rebounds in league games.

Taylor Fogleman went 2-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles as North Carolina finished the ITA National Team Tournament with a 2-1 team record. No. 13-ranked UNC upset No. 4 Baylor 4-3 and No. 9 Notre Dame 4-0 with its only loss coming to No. 5 Ole Miss. Playing with Stefan Hardy at No. 2 doubles Fogleman and his partner providing the clinching math to win doubles against both Baylor and Notre Dame. Fogleman had the decisive victory against aylor with a come-from-behind three-set win over Jordan Rux 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to lift Carolina to the 4-3 win. He also routed David Anderson of Notre Dame 6-2, 6-1 in UNC's 4-0 blanking of Notre Dame. Fogleman also led Jonas Berg 7-5, 3-3 in the match against Ole Miss before the match was suspended after the Rebels clinched the team point.

Junior faceoff specialist/athlete Shane Walterhoefer won 12 of 18 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls, allowing the North Carolina Tar Heels to dominate possession en route to a 15-2 season-opening win over ellarmine at Fetzer Field. Walterhoefer¹s possession skills helped UNC hold ellarmine for the last 48 plus minutes of the match as the Tar Heels went on a game-ending 14-0 scoring run.

Scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in Carolina's two wins over Virginia and Virginia Tech. He had 23 points, 17 of which came in the first half, plus the game-clinching hoop with 22 seconds to play in the win in Charlottesville. He led all scorers with 23 points and had nine boards in the win over the Hokies. He was 16 for 29 from the floor and 14 for 17 from the free throw line in the two contests. He added two blocked shots against UVa and two steals against the Hokies.
