CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The North Carolina men's lacrosse team begins a rugged stretch in which the Tar Heels will play each of the next six weekends against the teams ranked No. 1 through No. 6 in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll as No. 7 UNC seeks an upset of No. 5 Cornell Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field. UNC is 2-0 this season after beating Bellarmine 15-2 in its season opener and then traveling to Denver last Saturday to beat the homestanding, No. 20 Pioneers, 6-5.
Cornell is ranked No. 5 this week. The Big Red is 1-0 after beating Navy 8-7 in overtime last Saturday on Long Island. The Big Red reached the 2007 NCAA semifinals before losing to eventual NCAA runnerup Duke. Cornell heads to Chapel Hill having not lost a regular season game since the 2006 season.
Faceoff will be at Fetzer Field at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the internet live at ACC Select. UNC Athletic Communications will also provide live stats on Gametracker.
The teams last met in 2005 when UNC beat the Big Red 9-5 at Fetzer Field. Carolina is coming off a big win at Denver as the 2-0 Tar Heels won a one-goal decision for the first time since the 2004 season.
