10 Tar Heels Named To EAGL All-Academic Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of North Carolina gymnasts Shawna Kelly, Angela Lauten and Alice Xu have been named to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic Team for the fourth consecutive year. They are three of 10 Tar Heels to earn EAGL All-Academic honors in 2008. The others are Teri Diamond, Krista Jacob, Krista Jasper, Sarrie Rubin, Rachel Schneider, Jennifer Valby and Kara Wright.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the two previous semesters or a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen are also eligible, if they earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
Jacob, Schneider and Wright all earned the honor for the second time.
Kelly is a senior biology major from Chantilly, Va., Lauten is a senior exercise and sports science major from Kernersville, N.C., and Xu is a senior business major from Rockville, Md.
Under head coach Derek Galvin, North Carolina's gymnastics team has produced 63 EAGL All-Academic team members in the last five years.
