To Carolina fans, he'll probably always be, "Huuuuuuuu," the signature cheer from the Smith Center crowd that predated the 2008-era, "Cuuueeeeee," for Quentin Thomas. In some parts of Chapel Hill, perhaps, he'll forever be known as Walter Davis's nephew. But Hubert Davis has quietly gone about establishing his very impressive own identity, which has resulted in his selection for a prestigious honor during Final Four weekend.
On Saturday morning, Davis will accept the "Keys To Life" award, which is named in honor of John Wooden and recognizes a member of the pro or college basketball community who is living out Coach Wooden's seven keys to life and exemplifies outstanding character. The award will be presented during the Legends of the Hardwood breakfast, an NABC-sanctioned event, on Saturday morning.
In addition to his prolific Tar Heel and NBA career, Davis--who now resides in Chapel Hill with his family--has carved out a niche as a member of ESPN's College Gameday crew, where he teams with Jay "Duke-Boy" Bilas on the most popular college basketball show on television. Tar Heel fans can catch Davis and Bilas live in action at noon Saturday on the Gameday set at the Riverwalk.
