Tar Heels Claim ACC Regular Season Softball Title

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 14 North Carolina softball team had to wait a day to do it but the Tar Heels were able to hold on for a 2-1 win over Virginia Tech on Sunday to claim the ACC regular season title. Rain halted the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with Carolina leading 2-0 in the sixth inning forcing the teams to conclude the game on Sunday. The regular season title is the first for the Tar Heels since 1998 and the third in school history.
The Tar Heels will enter the ACC Tournament (May 8-11) as the top seed and will take on the eighth seed in the opening round. The 2008 ACC Softball Torunament will be hosted by the University of Maryland in College Park.
