LONDON --- North Carolina's Cetera DeGraffenreid scored 27 points on 11-of-12 shooting to lead the Tar Heels to a 94-68 win over a British select team Saturday evening at Brooklands College. The select team, playing under the colors of local Division I squad London Heathrow Acers, was comprised of current and former Acer players as well as former members of the country's national team.
The home side played a run-and-gun style similar to that of the Tar Heels, much to the excitement of the small but vocal crowd in attendance. The game was played using FIBA rules, which meant four 10-minute quarters, a trapezoidal lane and a 24-second shot clock.
By halftime, Carolina had built a 16-point lead thanks to the strong play of DeGraffenreid and Rashanda McCants. McCants, who had the bulk of her 15 points and team-high 12 rebounds before the break, needed just 17 minutes to tally a double-double. Other standouts included Iman McFarland (15 points and 11 rebounds), Italee Lucas (11 points, four assists) and Heather Claytor (11 points).
The British select team was led by Patricia Da Silva's team-high 17 points and eight rebounds.
Carolina will next play the French National Team during their three-day stay in Paris, which begins Sunday.
