Tar Heels To Open Fall Schedule With Home Tournament

The North Carolina softball team will kick off its 2008-09 season this weekend when they host the Carolina Fall Classic at the Anderson Softball Complex. The Tar Heels will welcome St. Andrews, Elon, Longwood and NC Central to Chapel Hill for nine games in two days. Carolina will take on St. Andrews and Longwood on Saturday before closing out the weekend on Sunday against Elon and NC Central.
The Tar Heels are coming off their best season in school history as they went 50-12 and hosted the first NCAA Regional in Anderson Stadium. Carolina went 2-0 in the spring against Elon as the Tar Heels captured a 9-1 win on Feb. 27 before claiming a 7-0 victory March 25. UNC swept Longwood a day later as the Tar Heels cruised to an 8-0 win before closing out the doubleheader with a 3-1 win. The Tar Heels opened the season at the Carolina Classic where they took down NC Central 24-0 on Feb. 9. St. Andrews College is a Division II program in Laurinburg, N.C. who finished the 2008 season 16-36.
