UNC-Clemson Postgame Quotes
"A great win for us. At halftime we talked about how we should get the shooters a little better on the perimeter, particularly Oglesby and we have to do a little bit of a better job rebounding. They had some flurries where it didn't look like that, but in rebounds we were down five at half, and ended up outrebounding them 41-39. They didn't shoot the ball particularly well in the second half. I'd like to think that our defense was part of it, or the pace of the game or something, but they also just missed some open shots because we weren't there to guard them. It was fortunate for us that they missed some of those that were open"
On Players:
"It was good to have a little bit more spring in Deon's step, there's no question about that. Wayne for the second game in the row got it going again, but the thing that impressed me the most about Wayne is, other than the foul on Oglesby's three point attempt, is that I think Wayne did a nice job defensively, also rebounding the basketball. I think he had an offensive rebound early in the second half. Those things are all good for us. We played pretty doggone well basically the whole game, except for the backboards and [Clemson] getting too many open looks. "
On Ellington`s continued success against Clemson:
"Some styles of games suit certain players, and it's up and down, people seem to be able to find Wayne. Wayne's a shooter. We put it on the floor and take it to the basket. This game really didn't fit Tyler. He had 20 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't the kind of game where we throw the ball into Tyler and expect him to make some good plays. It wasn't his kind of game."
Wayne Ellington
On why he is successful against Clemson:
"I think it's just the press, and Tywon being as fast as he is and being able to break down the press, I was getting open looks all night long, and that just gets me going. Once I get one or two open looks, I'm on for the night.
On how practicing his shot has impacted his recent streak of good games:
"I've been working all season long, and I've just continued to have faith and not really letting missed shots do anything to my confidence. I think it's worked for me. Sooner or later I'd be able to break through it, it didn't really affect me in any type of way."
On the run towards the end of the game:
"That's something that we decided to do, we just wanted to put our foot down and get stops on defense and go out and execute, and I think we did a good job of that late in the first half and we came into the second half with the same energy."
On what has changed for Wayne:
"He's just gone through streaks and stretches. I think every year he's gone through a stretch when he didn't make too many shots, but when he gets on he's on. He's probably going to be like that the rest of the year."
On getting over the rough patch (two losses to BC and Wake Forest):
"We fixed the little things that we were going through defensively. We just worked on the little things that we were messing up--also screens--and that's helping us out in the long run now."
