Q & A - Senior Christine Knauer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Christine Knauer is a veteran leader in the Carolina Leadership Academy. The Long Island, N.Y. native posts a career batting average of .303, scoring 88 runs in her 170 games played over three seasons. The senior shortstop is the team's top base stealing threat swiping 39 bases in 45 attempts in her career, including 27 stolen bases a year ago. Knauer currently ranks eighth all-time in school history in career stolen bases. The senior was named top-female Super Ram and Iron Ram for Olympic Sports in 2008-09. Knauer, also was the recipient of the Johnny Carroll Hustle Award and Coach's Award in 2009. Knauer caught up with tarheelblue.com in Carolina softball's first installment of a question and answer series this season.
The University of North Carolina softball team finished their fall 2009 campaign this past weekend, winning five of seven games played. The Tar Heels notched wins over Elon, UNC Wilmington, and Campbell this fall. Carolina fell to UNC Greensboro this past weekend to conclude their fall season.
The Tar Heels finished 47-13 overall and 15-5 in league play a year ago. The Tar Heels should be a favorite entering the 2010 season after hosting two straight NCAA regionals over the past two seasons. Along with Knauer, the Heels squad features two-time ACC player of the year Danielle Spaulding and classmates Stephanie Murad, Anna Roberts and Amber Johnson. The 2010 team will also return talented pitcher/first baseman Constance Orr and catcher Brittany McKinney.
