CHICAGO, ILL. - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was named one of the top 25 schools in the NCSA power rankings today. NCSA, the National Collegiate Scouting Association, assesses the academic and athletic accomplishments of all colleges and universities across the country. The Tar Heels' softball squad was 47-13 and 15-5 in the ACC, hosting a NCAA Regional for the second straight season.
Carolina checks in at number 24 in the rankings this year, posting an academic rank of 30 and athletic rank of 4. The Tar Heels are in the same poll with the likes of Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Yale. Four ACC schools other than Carolina check in the top 25 - Duke (3), Boston College (15), Virginia (16) and Wake Forest.
The Collegiate Power Rankings from NCSA are calculated for each college/university at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels by averaging the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup ranking, the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate of each college/university and the U.S. News & World Report ranking. The collegiate power rankings based off of the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup rating evaluates the strength of NCAA athletic departments, while the U.S. News & World Report rating recognizes institutions of academic excellence. The student-athlete graduation rates are based on those provided by the NCAA.
