No. 9 Tar Heels Set To Meet South Carolina Sunday

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- North Carolina (8-1) will play its final game before breaking for the Christmas holiday when the Tar Heels take on South Carolina Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Carolina defeated Gardner-Webb on Dec. 13, 81-65, while South Carolina (6-3) is coming off a 62-52 win over Wake Forest on Thursday. Carolina is ranked No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 10 in the coaches' poll. South Carolina is unranked.

SOUTH CAROLINA SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina is 7-6 all-time against South Carolina.
• The Tar Heels and Gamecocks have not met since the 2003-04 season, when the two squads faced off in Myrtle Beach. That game, a 77-53 UNC victory, capped a run of four straight December meetings between the two schools in Myrtle Beach.
• Carolina is 5-4 all-time against the Gamecocks in the Palmetto State. The last five meetings have all come in the Myrtle Beach area, with UNC winning three of the five games on the Grand Strand.
NOTING THE GAMECOCKS
• Junior guard Valerie Nainima leads four South Carolina scorers in double figures with 17.7 points per game.
• Freshman Kelsey Bone is second on the team in scoring with 15.0 points per contest and leads the Gamecocks in rebounded with 9.2 boards per outing.
• South Carolina has played three ACC teams, losing at Clemson and defeating NC State and Wake Forest at home.

• Carolina has played at least one game in the Myrtle Beach area every year since 1994.
• The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 21-4 in the Myrtle Beach area that includes wins in each of the last seven seasons.
• Last season, UNC defeated Illinois, 68-59, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
