Nguyen Earns Second Consecutive EAGL Gymnast Of The Year Honor

Raleigh, N.C. ----- University of North Carolina junior Christine Nguyen repeated as the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Year announced Friday evening at the EAGL Championships Banquet. Nguyen, a junior from Plano, Texas, was also the league's gymnast of the year in 2008.
Nguyen was a first-team performer on the balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. She garnered second-team honors on uneven bars. Joining her as a first-team EAGL selection were teammates Kara Wright, Zoya Johnson, Tina Jacob and Krista Jasper.
Wright, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., earned first-team honors on the uneven bars and all-around. Jacob repeated as a first-team selection on balance beam. Johnson, a freshman from Silver Spring, Md., earned her first career EAGL all-conferenc honor on the uneven bars and Jasper was selected on the floor. Jasper injured her knee last season and had to redshirt in 2008.
Senior Jennifer Valby and freshman Morgan Evans were named second-team on vault.
Gymnasts with the top eight Regional Qualifying Scores or top six Season Average Scores in each event and the all-around (as listed in Troester on March 16, 2009) received first-team All-EAGL honors. The second team was selected by a vote of the league's coaches.

Outstanding Senior Gymnast - Mehgan Morris, West Virginia
