
Tar Heels Drop Road Match To Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina lost a tough match to neighboring rival North Carolina State Wednesday afternoon, losing 5-2 in an away match played in Raleigh.
The 39th-ranked Wolfpack notched their first ACC win by beating UNC, while the 29th-ranked Tar Heels suffered their first ACC loss.
N.C. State jumped out to an early lead by winning two of three doubles matches to secure the team point. Twenty-second ranked Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman won the second doubles match finished to keep UNC's hopes of winning the team point alive, but State's 52nd-ranked pair edged the Tar Heels' No. 2 team shortly afterwards to gain a one point lead.
Brennan Boyajian quickly brought the match back to even with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Julian Sullivan to open up singles play. Team captain Taylor Fogleman followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against 91st-ranked Christian Welte to give the Tar Heels a 2-1 lead. The Wolfpack then reeled off four straight wins in a row to bring the team tally to 5-2 in their favor.
Carolina will look to rebound against Bethune Cookman in a neutral-site match in Orlando, Fla. The match will be played on March 9 at 3 p.m.
