Tar Heels Fall In Finals Of ITA/USTA Carolinas Regional

CHAPEL HILL- After winning the first set, Jose Hernandez lost a tight match to the No. 2 player in the nation in Duke's Henrique Cunha Monday.
In a match-up of two of the nation's best young players, Hernandez, ranked No. 30, took a hard-fought first set 7-6 (8), before dropping next the next two against Duke's hard-hitting Brazilian. It was the second straight Tar Heel felled by Cunha after he beat No. 64 Stefan Hardy 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal.
Hernandez and newcomer Joey Burkhardt fought hard to get to the doubles finals, defeating Dominik Kaniewski and Davy Sum of Campbell in the semifinal 8-6. The pair lost to the No. 1 doubles team in the nation in Cunha and Reid Carleton in Monday's final.
