• The Tar Heels' 42 points are the most they have scored against East Carolina since UNC beat the Pirates 56-0 behind Kelvin Bryant's six touchdowns in 1981.
• The 25-point margin of victory was UNC's largest since beating Georgia Southern, 42-12, on Oct. 10, 2009. It was the largest against an FBS opponent since a 38-12 win over Connecticut on Oct. 4, 2008.
• The Tar Heels have won two in a row and four of five against ECU since 2001. UNC leads the series, 10-2-1.
• North Carolina gained a season-high 444 yards of total offense (previous high this year was 436 against LSU).
• North Carolina rushed for 263 yards on 46 carries (5.7 per carry) against East Carolina. That is five more yards than UNC had rushed for in its first three games combined this year. UNC entered today's game with 258 rushing yards on 95 carries.
• North Carolina's 263 rushing yards today is 120 yards more than it gained on the ground in any of its first three games this season (previous high was 143 against Georgia Tech).
• North Carolina had two players rush for 100 yards, the first time they have accomplished that in a game since Sept. 4, 2004, the season opener against William and Mary. Johnny White (16 carries for a career-high 140) and Shaun Draughn (27 carries for 137 yards) went over 100 today. Ronnie McGill and Jacque Lewis accomplished it in 2004. It was only the second time in the last 16 seasons UNC has done that.
• Today was the first time two Tar Heels rushed for 130 or more yards in the same game since 1993 when Leon Johnson (147) and Curtis Johnson (144) did that against Ohio University.
• White (140) eclipsed his previous best effort of 113 yards on 17 carries against Georgia Tech earlier this season. White had a career-long rush of 54 yards in the third quarter today. White gained 102 of his 140 yards in the third quarter.
• Draughn (137) was one yard shy of equaling his career high for rushing yards. He gained 98 yards of his 137 yards today in the fourth quarter, including 62 on eight carries on UNC's final touchdown drive.
• Draughn had a career-high three touchdowns, on runs of 1, 4 and 13 yards in the second half. Prior to today, Draughn had one other two-TD game, when he ran for a touchdown and caught another against Duke in 2008.
• Today marked the first time in four games this season the Tar Heels did not commit a turnover. North Carolina forced three turnovers, all interceptions. It was the first time since the win over Miami in 2009 that UNC did not commit any turnovers.
• Quarterback T.J. Yates completed 18 of 26 pass for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Yates has now completed 577 of 951 attempts for 6,761 yards and 45 touchdowns in his career. He is second in UNC history in attempts, completions, yards and TDs.
• Tight end Zack Pianalto made seven receptions for a career-best 95 yards, marking the eighth time in his last 10 games and fourth straight game this season in which he has caught at least four passes. Pianalto now has 26 catches for 251 yards on the season.
• Safety Da'Norris Searcy played for the first time this season and returned a second-quarter interception 46 yards for a touchdown. The play was his second career interception and second career score. His previous touchdown was a 77-yard punt return against The Citadel in 2009.
• Wide receiver Dwight Jones scored his first career touchdown in the third quarter, a 13-yard reception from Yates.
• Linebacker Kevin Reddick recorded his first career interception late in the third quarter that set up a Carolina scoring drive.
• Place kicker Casey Barth converted all six extra points in the game, giving him 47 consecutive made PATs.
• Punter C.J. Feagles was the primary punter for the first time in his career, finishing with a 36.3 yard average on six punts and a career-long of 49 yards.
• East Carolina had just 16 rushing attempts, the lowest amount in any game coached at UNC by Butch Davis.
• The Tar Heels had 25 first downs, most in any game coached by Butch Davis (previous was 22 three times last year).
