No. 10 Tar Heels Set For Beach Battle With Gamecocks

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- North Carolina makes its annual pre-Christmas trek to Myrtle Beach Sunday when the Tar Heels face border rival South Carolina at 3 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Carolina is 10-0 on the year after a 78-66 win over UNLV on Dec. 12. South Carolina is 5-4 on the season following 77-63 win over NC State last Sunday. UNC is ranked No. 10 in the latest AP poll and No. 11 in the coaches' poll. South Carolina is unranked.

SOUTH CAROLINA SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 8-6 all-time against South Carolina.
The Tar Heels and Gamecocks are playing in Myrtle Beach for the second straight season. UNC topped South Carolina, 93-85, in 2009 in what was one of the most exciting games of the season.
Carolina is 6-4 all-time against the Gamecocks in the Palmetto State. The last six meetings have all come in the Myrtle Beach area, with UNC winning four of the six games on the Grand Strand.

South Carolina is 5-4 on the season following 77-63 win over NC State last Sunday.
Sophomore guard Ieasia Walker leads three Gamecocks in double figures with 12.3 points per game.
Sophomore forward Ashley Bruner is the team's leading rebounder with 6.7 boards per contest.

Carolina has played at least one game in the Myrtle Beach area every year since 1994.
The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 22-4 in the Myrtle Beach area that includes wins in each of the last eight seasons.
UNC's last loss in Myrtle Beach was an 85-53 setback to South Carolina in 2001.
