A full day of events and activities has been planned by the North Carolina athletic department surrounding the Tar Heels' nationally televised ESPN Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 10. Admission to the Spring Game is free and kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
Tar Heel Town will open at 12 noon with events scheduled for the Bell Tower quad and Kenan Stadium. Live bands will perform at the Bell Tower, and the General Alumni Association will host the popular Bell Tower climb and face painting. A Kids Zone will be set up on the stadium field with bounce houses, inflatables and other kid-friendly activities. A cheerleading clinic also will be held on the field at noon.
SpringFest, a student-run end-of-the year celebration that includes music, food, games and activities, will take place from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Bell Tower, the new brick pathway from Stadium Drive and inside Kenan Stadium. SpringFest is open to the public.
Fans will have an opportunity to obtain autographs from the Carolina players and head coach Butch Davis beginning at 1 p.m. on the field.
Schedule posters will be given away to the first 3,000 fans at Kenan Stadium, and several door prizes will be awarded throughout the game, including a grand prize trip for two to Carolina's game at Miami (airfare from RDU, hotel accommodations, game tickets and gameday transportation). Other door prizes include two tickets to the ACC Championship Game; two tickets to the Orange Bowl; autographed Carolina football helmet; four tickets to any one game on the 2010 home schedule; two football season tickets; VIP table at Butch Davis Live radio show and dinner with Woody Durham following the show; Carolina football helmet signed by Julius Peppers and Lawrence Taylor; and gift certificates to Chapel Hill Sportswear, Top of the Hill restaurant and Spanky's restaurant.
North Carolina students will play an active role in the festivities as well. Students are invited to compete in a 40-yard dash to determine the Fastest Tar Heel On Campus. The finalists will compete against UNC student-athletes, tentatively scheduled to include football players Zach Brown, Robert Quinn and Hunter Furr at halftime of the Spring Game. Interested students can register at campusrec.unc.edu.
In addition to the contest, four 58-inch HDTVs will be awarded to the fraternity, sorority, residence hall and student group (1 HDTV to each group) with the highest attendance at the Spring Game (rules). Hardee's, the sponsor of Carolina's weekly Tar Pit challenge during the season, has offered a new challenge for the Spring Game. If more than 4,000 students attend the game, the North Carolina restaurant chain will give away a thickburger coupon to every student in attendance.
Several first-come, first-served parking lots are available across campus free of charge, including: Park Place, Nash, McCauley Deck, Craige Deck, Cardinal Deck, Jackson Deck ACC Lot, T-Lot, Emerson Drive, Lenoir Drive; and Swain Lot. The Morehead Lot is free until 3 p.m. All of those lots open at 8 a.m.
