Overall Notes

Friday's attendance of 8,762 fans set a record for the largest United States women's lacrosse crowd ... the previous mark was 7,549 fans at last year's NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Semifinals hosted by Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium is the host for the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship for the third-straight year, marking the first time in the tournament's history that the same site has hosted the semifinals and championship game three-straight years.

With Maryland's 14-5 victory over Syracuse in the NCAA Semifinal opener today, Northwestern and Maryland will meet in the NCAA Championship Game for the first time in tournament history on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ... Maryland and Northwestern have won more NCAA titles than any either team in the nation, as the two teams have combined for 14 NCAA Championships ... the Terrapins have won a NCAA-record nine national titles, with their last one coming in 2001 ... the Wildcats have won five NCAA titles, all of which have come in the last-five years.

Northwestern is 7-2 all-time against North Carolina ... North Carolina snapped Northwestern's 41-game winning streak earlier this year on April 18 with an 18-16 win in Evanston, Ill. ... Friday night's matchup was a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship game, where Northwestern claimed its fifth-consecutive title with a 21-7 victory in Towson, Md.

North Carolina and Northwestern entered halftime tied at four apiece ... in their prior meeting on April 18, the two teams were tied at 12 each after the first-30 minutes of play ... in last year's NCAA Championship Game, Northwestern led North Carolina at the half, 15-3.

After the two teams combined for four goals over the first-27:35 of the game, the squads combined for four goals over the last-2:25 of the first half, including a flurry of three goals over the final-27 seconds of the stanza ... the frenzy continued with two quick goals to start the second half within the first 1:39 of the second half.

North Carolina and Northwestern scored 14-straight unassisted goals between 25:35 and 2:39 left in the second half.

North Carolina is 14-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament games.

North Carolina head coach Jenny Levy is 14-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests.

The Tar Heels finished the year with 17 wins, which were tied for the most in school history with the 2002 squad.

Corie Donohoe set the program's single-season points record with 77 points ... she passed the previous mark of 76 points by Kellie Thompson (2002) ... Donohoe set the record with a pair of second half goals that came 43 seconds apart.

Northwestern Notes

Northwestern is making its sixth all-time and straight appearance in the NCAA Championship Game ... the Wildcats are 5-0 in NCAA title affairs.

Northwestern is 25-6 all-time in NCAA Tournament games ... its .806 winning percentage in NCAA Tournament contests ranks first in tournament history.

The Wildcats have won 23-straight NCAA Tournament games, which ranks as the longest streak in tournament history.

Northwestern head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller is 24-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests ... her .960 winning percentage ranks first in tournament history among coaches with at least 10 NCAA Tournament games.

Since the start of the 2002 season, Northwestern owns a 90-19 record against nationally-ranked opponents, including a 55-9 mark against top-10 foes.

Katrina Dowd's 52 career points in NCAA Tournament games ranks fourth in tournament history after her 45th career NCAA Tournament goal, which are the most in tournament history.

Katrina Dowd moved into second place on the program's single-season goals list with 77 goals ... Dowd is the only student-athlete in program history to net 75-plus goals in a season twice in her career, as she tallied 75 goals one season ago ... Dowd also moved into fourth place on the school's single-season points list with 109 points.

Shannon Smith moved into a tie for seventh place on the single-season goals list at Northwestern with 66 goals ... Smith also moved into a tie for eighth place on the school's single-season assists list with 32 helpers ... she also moved into tie for eighth place on the program's single-season points list with 98 points this spring.

Danielle Spencer's eight draw controls on Friday night pushed her season total to 105, which made her just the fifth player in NCAA history to record 100-plus draw controls in a single season.

Danielle Spencer moved into a tie for seventh place on the career points list at Northwestern with 235 points after her three goals on Friday evening.
