GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Katherine Perry, an incoming freshman on the University of North Carolina women's golf team, won the 43rd North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship being played at Forest Oaks Country Club, a par 72, 2,007-yard layout. Perry, from Cary, defeated Maddison Kennedy of Salisbury in the semifinals, 5 and 4 on Friday morning and then defeated Andrea Robbins of Pleasant Garden, 2 up in the championship match that afternoon.
The championship win did not come easy. Number one ranked Perry battled Robbins all the way to the 18th hole where a two-putt par sealed the match and the title as the best junior girls' golfer in North Carolina. Robbins, a rising senior in high school, defeated Evelyn Dole of Cary, 6 ad 5 in the semifinals.
The annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
