In week one of the NFL season, the former dynamic receiving duo of Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate combined for four scores, as Nicks caught three touchdown passes and Tate sprinted 97 yards with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Two former Tar Heel kickers also stood out on Sunday, as Connor Barth made a 49-yarder in a three-point Buccaneer victory and Jeff Reed connected on three field goals for Pittsburgh.
Kentwan Balmer, Seattle - Third-year defensive tackle saw action the in his Seahawks' debut as they defeated San Francisco 31-6.
Connor Barth, Tampa Bay - Carolina's all-time leader in field goals drilled a 49-yard field goal that proved to be the difference in the Buccaneers' 17-14 win over Cleveland.
Jason Brown, St. Louis - Former first-team All-ACC center helped the Rams rush for 85 yards in a 17-13 loss to Arizona.
Alge Crumpler, New England - Two-time All-Pro tight end helped lead a rushing attack that amassed 118 yards and had a 15-yard reception negated due to penalty in New England's 38-24 win.
Madison Hedgecock, N.Y. Giants - Sixth-year fullback paved the way for the Giants' running back duo to rack up 120 yards in a 31-18 win over the Panthers.
Jordan Hemby, Indianapolis - Cornerback is on injured reserved for the season with a torn ACL.
Jesse Holley, Dallas - Wide receiver is listed on the Cowboys' practice squad for the second consecutive year.
Vonnie Holliday, Washington - Thirteenth-year defensive lineman saw action as the Redskins defense limited the Cowboys offense to just one score in a 13-7 win Sunday night.
Kyle Jolly, Pittsburgh - Rookie offensive tackle is listed on the Steelers' practice squad.
Hakeem Nicks, N.Y. Giants - UNC's all-time leading receiver hauled in three touchdown catches from 26, 19 and 5 yards out. The 2009 first-round pick finished with four catches for 75 yards in New York's vicory over the Panthers.
Julius Peppers, Chicago - Former Lombardi and Bednarik Award winner recorded a sack, two hurries and forced a fumble in the Bears' nail-biting 19-14 win over Detroit.
Richard Quinn, Denver - Second-year tight end saw action in the Broncos' 24-17 loss at Jacksonville.
Jeff Reed, Pittsburgh - Ninth-year kicker made field goals from 52, 36 and 34 yards to score the Steelers' only points in regulation as they defeated Atlanta 15-9 in overtime. The 52-yarder was the longest field goal made in Heinz Field history.
Garrett Reynolds, Atlanta - Second-year offensive tackle was inactive in the Falcons' 15-9 overtime loss at Pittsburgh.
Jeff Saturday, Indianapolis - Four-time Pro Bowl center anchored an offensive line that helped the Colts rack up 463 yards in a 34-24 setback at Houston.
Gerald Sensabaugh, Dallas - Starting strong safety registered three tackles and one assist in the Cowboys' 13-7 loss to Washington.
Ryan Sims, Tampa Bay - Veteran started at right defensive end in Tampa Bay's season-opening victory over the Browns.
Brandon Tate, New England - Second-year wide receiver, who holds the ACC record for career kickoff return yards, returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and chipped in four receptions for 36 yards in the Patriots' convincing 38-24 win over Cincinnati.
Hilee Taylor, Carolina - Defensive end is listed on injured reserve and out for the year with a right knee injury.
Cam Thomas, San Diego - Rookie defensive tackle was inactive in San Diego's 21-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
David Thornton, Tennessee - Ninth-year linebacker begins the season on the Titans' physically unable to perform list due to offseason hip and shoulder surgeries.
Greg Warren, Pittsburgh - Veteran deep-snapper helped Pittsburgh convert field goals and recorded one assist in punt coverage in the Steelers' victory.
E.J. Wilson, Seattle - Rookie defensive end was inactive in Seattle's triumph over the 49ers.
Wallace Wright, Carolina - Wide receiver and special teams ace has been placed on injured reserve by the Panthers for an injured shoulder.
