Contract Extensions Approved For Trio Of Head Coaches

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina has agreed to contract extensions for baseball coach Mike Fox, women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell and men's basketball coach Roy Williams, Director of Athletics Dick Baddour announced today.
Chancellor Holden Thorp and the UNC Board of Trustees approved the new contracts.
"It's been my honor to work with these outstanding individuals who represent the University of North Carolina in such a first-class way," says Baddour. "I've had the privilege to work with Roy, Sylvia and Mike - three of the true giants in their respective coaching worlds - for a long and successful period. Carolina is a special place and it's people like them that makes it so. I am proud that one of my final responsibilities as director of athletics was to help secure their long-term commitment to the University."
Fox is in his 14th season as UNC's head baseball coach and has led the Tar Heels to the College World Series five times in the last six seasons. He leads all active coaches in the country in winning percentage, is one of the top 10-winningest coaches by percentage in college baseball history and was the National Coach of the Year in 2008. Carolina became the first ACC baseball program to play in the College World Series in four consecutive seasons when the Tar Heels reached Omaha, Neb., in 2006-2009.
Fox's contract is extended through 2018. His base salary will be $180,000 in 2011-12, $220,000 in 2012-13, $240,000 in 2013-14, $250,000 in 2014-15 and $260,000 in each of the following three seasons. He also will receive an expense allowance ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 and is eligible to receive standard bonuses for qualifying and advancing through the NCAA Tournament and for the baseball team equaling or exceeding the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate of 960.
Hatchell is in her 26th season at Carolina. A three-time national coach of the year, she has led the Tar Heels to the 1994 national championship, three Final Fours and eight ACC titles. She has won 859 games, 587 at Carolina, and is one of only four women's basketball coaches with at least 800 wins.
Hatchell's contract now runs through 2018. A member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, her base salary will be $360,000. The University will pay Hatchell supplemental compensation ranging from $70,000 to $130,000 per year and an expense allowance of $40,000. Hatchell is eligible to receive standard bonuses for qualifying and advancing through the NCAA Tournament and for the women's basketball team equaling or exceeding the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate of 960.

Williams is in his ninth season as head coach of the Tar Heels. A 2007 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Williams has led the Tar Heels to two national championships, three Final Fours, five ACC regular-season championships, a pair of ACC Tournament titles and 225 wins in his first eight seasons as head coach. He has the highest winning percentage (.798) of any active coach in the country and is fourth on the all-time list.
Williams's contract is extended through 2018. His base salary will be $333,938, he will receive an expense allowance of $30,000 in2011-12 and $40,000 in each of the next six years and he will receive supplemental income paid by the University that will range from $1.35 million to $1.65 million per year. Williams is also is eligible to receive standardbonuses for qualifying and advancing through the NCAA Tournament and for the men's basketball team equaling or exceeding the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate of 960.
