Tar Heel Doubles Team Reaches Regional Final

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The second-seeded doubles team of Joe Burkhardt and Brennan Boyajian from the University of North Carolina has advanced to the championship match of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolinas Regional final. The Tar Heel duo will play in the title match Monday at 9 a.m. against the tournament's top seeds.
Seniors Burkhardt and Boyajian, seeded No. 2 in the regional, defeated sixth-seeded Cameron Silverman and Eric Turner of Elon Sunday 8-6 to advance to the championship match on Monday at 9 a.m. They will play No. 1-seeded Henrique Cunha and Chris Mengel of Duke. Cunha and Mengel defeated No. 7 seeds Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee of Wake Forest 8-3 in the other semifinal.
In singles play, UNC players Joey Burkhardt and William Parker ended up being matched against each other in the tournament's Round of 16. Burkhardt prevailed 6-3, 6-1.
Burkhardt, seeded No. 5, was then defeated by the tournament's No. 4 seed, Yannick Maden, of Clemson, 6-4, 6-3 in the tournament quarterfinals.
