Postgame Notes vs. Clemson

With the loss today, Carolina falls to 5-3 overall with all three losses coming against ACC teams.
North Carolina allowed 59 points today, the most since a 69-14 loss at Louisville in 2005. The 59 points are the most scored by Clemson in the UNC series. The Tigers' previous high was 54 in 1974.
Junior wide receiver Jheranie Boyd had a 33-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and a 58-yard scoring catch in the second quarter. Boyd has nine receptions this season and four have gone for touchdowns. For his career, he ha 35 receptions and 11 for touchdowns.
After outscoring opponents 42-3 in the first quarter through the first six games of the season, the Tar Heels have been outscored 27-7 in the last two games vs. Miami (17-0) and Clemson (10-7).
Freshman T.J. Thorpe returned a third quarter kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. It is just the second 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in school history. The other was Tyrell Godwin at Stanford in 1998. It is just the 14th time in ACC history that a player has returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. The last player to do was was Maryland's Josh Wilson vs. Georgia Tech in 2006. Thorpe entered the game leading the ACC in kickoff return average.
Ryan Houston scored on runs of 2 yards and 12 yards in the fourth quarter. He now has 23 career touchdowns and 15 of those have been from either one or two yards out. The 12-yarder to close the game was the longest scoring run of his career.
Houston's 23 career touchdowns have covered a total of 65 yards and he now ranks ninth all-time at Carolina, one ahead of Ethan Horton (1981-84).
