No. 22 UNC Falls To No. 5 Florida 9-0

GAINESVILLE, FLA. -- No. 5 Florida scored seven runs in the second inning to defeat No. 22 North Carolina 9-0 Saturday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader at Pressly Stadium. Brittany McKinney and Haleigh Dickey registered the lone hits for the Tar Heels, who fall to 4-3 on the year.
Sara Buchholz (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in one inning of work. Classmate Ashley Bone allowed four runs on six hits in three innings of work.
The Gators' Hannah Rogers (3-0) allowed just two hits over five shutout innings of work. Florida defeated UNC 3-0 in game one of the doubleheader, as Stephanie Brombacher tossed a five-hit shutout.
Offensively, McKinney and Dickey provided the lone hits for the Tar Heels. Carolina produced just two baserunners in the entire game.
Florida took advantage of a pair of free passes in the second frame. Cheyenne Coyle ripped a RBI double off the right center field wall before Kelsey Horton cranked a three-run home run over the left field scoreboard. The Gators chased Buchholz after five straight runners reached with no outs.
one entered to pitch and Florida added three more runs on two errors. Aja Paculba belted a solo home run off the right field foul pole to give Florida a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Florida tacked on another run in the third extending their lead to 8-0. A RBI single off the bat of Kasey Fagan gave the Gators a eight-run lead after three innings. The lead jumped to 9-0 in the fourth courtesy of a RBI sacrifice fly from Megan Bush.
UNC found their first offense in the fifth and final frame, but failed to manufacture a run. Rogers ended the frame with a groundout and pop out to give Florida the 9-0 win in five innings.
Carolina and Florida will conclude their series Sunday at 1 p.m. from Pressly Stadium.
